Helping LAUSD Kids

In 1984, the Kathryn L. Kurka Children’s Health Fund was incorporated as a non-profit organization.

To date, the Kurka Fund has serviced over 50,000 children in the LAUSD school district, and continues to serve thousands each year in the following areas:

· Vision

· Dental

· Medical

· Mental health

· Immunizations

As an addition to the services provided by the Kurka Fund, in 2004 we began funding the two PTSA Clinics. The 10^th District PTA Clinic has two locations in the San Fernando Valley, and the 31^st PTSA Clinic has two locations in downtown Los Angeles. All LAUSD students may utilize these clinics, with payment on a sliding scale basis. Funding from the Kathryn L. Kurka Children’s Health Fund enhances the services that they are able to provide.

SHARING BRINGS HOPE CAMPAIGN

The Kathryn L. Kurka Children's Health Fund, Inc. is one of the major recipients for donations generously contributed by the staff, students and parents of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Volunteers from the Kurka Board of Directors help with the activities needed to make this a successful campaign.You can learn more about the annual Sharing Brings Hope Consolidated Charities Campaign at:

Who We Are

We are a 100% volunteer group of retired Nurses, Administrators, teachers and community members, who plan, and coordinate activities for obtaining donations to the Fund. The fund provides direct healh services to children in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Volunteers answer the Kurka Message Phone 818-955-6500 and refer callers to the services they may need.

The Board of Directors of the Kathryn L. Kurka Children's Health Fund meet four or five times annually. The 2006-2007 Board of Directors are:

Annual Opportunity Fundraiser

One of our fund raisers this year was the opportunity drawing at the Annual School Nurses Retirement Dinner on June 12th at the Proud Bird Restaurant. Thanks to the support of the school nurses a significant donation was made to the Fund. Prizes were $1,000, $500, a night at the Hollywood Bowl with dinner, $100, and more.

"Fun-raising" Fundraising Cruise Symposium

We are planning a Fundraising/CEH Cruise for spring vacation 2008. The Cruise will be a 3 or 4 day Cruise. possibly to Ensenada and Catalina. You will be able to attend CEH classes while cruising. Early booking is impotant to guarantee group rates for the cruise. A percent of the cost will be donated to the Kurka Fund. Additional information will be available later this summer.

Travel for Kurka Fundraiser

A new fundraiser for the Kurka Fund is a travel reservation website. Now you can make reservations for travel,business and leisure vacations, cruises, attractions (Disneyland,Universal Studios, etc.) and event tickets at:
