Holiday Greetings, December 2021

From our President Tricia Chicagus and the Kurka Children’s Health Fund Board of Directors, with a wish for good health throughout the season and year to come. In addition to over 80 languages spoken in the District, we salute the rich diversity of ethnicities and the many holidays and festivals of our student population. LAUSD students and families are members of many religions: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and many others. Best wishes to all who enjoyed Islamic Holidays and festivals in the fall, Happy Holidays for those who celebrated Hannukkah and those who will celebrate Christmas and Kwansaa in December and January. We wish a Happy New Year to all. We will think of those that honor Budhi Day in January and those who celebrate the Chinese New Year in February.

Dental pain is one of leading causes of school absenteeism. To address the dental health needs of students, The Kurka Children’s Health Fund, purchased over 2300 dental kits that were distributed by Eddie Lozano, Medical Supply Clerk to 14 LAUSD Clinics. When students receive services, they receive the kits with toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss and a two-minute timer, along with dental education. This is important now and throughout their lives. The Fund also provided to Vision Clinics, 700 hard and 700 soft glasses cases, along with 1000 microfiber cloths for cleaning.
