Sad News, March 2022

Two of our long time Board Members have passed away recently.

Connie Moore passed away January 25, 2022 from Alzheimers. Connie was a School Nurse with LAUSD for over 20 years. She was a Nursing Coordinator from 2006-2011 and Nursing Director from 2011-2014. As an active Kurka Board member, she monitored the Kurka Message Phone line to assist nurses and district staff with student referrals and help from the Kurka Fund. Connie was well know for her church community and charitable work. Connie leaves behind her husband Doug, two children and one grandchild.

Ellen Misawa passed away on February 22, 2022 after a short battle with cancer. Ellen was a community member that joined the Kurka Board in 2011. She worked tirelessly on the charitable campaign “Sharing Brings Hope Campaign” committee. The Board was so happy that she chose the Kurka Children’s Health Fund to devote her energy and enthusiasm for working on the annual fundraising events. She leaves behind her long-time fiancé Randy Yubano and her precious dog, Abby.
